April 29, 2022 – In honor of the 89th birthday of country music legend Willie Nelson, Spirit of Oya Records announces the release of “Thank You for the Memories,” a masterful 14-song tribute album by R&B/soul artist Oya.
A lifelong Willie Nelson fan, Oya performs soulful renditions of Nelson classics such as “On the Road Again” and “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” in a special musical compilation. The album features Oya’s newest music single “Thank You for the Memories” written and composed by the award-winning singer/songwriter.
“Willie Nelson had a major impact on my life as an artist and musician,” said Oya. “This was my special way to honor and thank him for his immeasurable talent and inspiration.”
On the cover of Oya’s newest album, Willie Nelson fans will recognize a special tribute photo as Oya dons the same outfit and hairstyle as Nelson from his album cover for “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” In addition, the album insert for “Thank You for the Memories” also features a photo of young Oya as she’s about to sing “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” wearing a red bandana just like Nelson.
In a personal dedication to Nelson, Oya writes in her album notes, “Dear Mr. Willie Nelson, thank you for being YOU! Thank you for being authentic and true to your soul and the music that you do. Your way of being and performance inspired me. Thank you for sparking that something inside of me. Please accept this tribute as a form of musical flowers from my heart to honor you.”
