Oya Thomas savors the freedom that comes from expressing herself through the art of acting and connects deeply to audiences using a rare blend of raw emotion and refined skill.
Through her performances on stage, screen and beyond she exhibits a never-ending enthusiasm for learning about her depths as an actress and creates powerful moments through the voices of many complex, vibrant characters she has channeled and continues to channel as her diverse career grows.
Performing on the stage throughout her childhood, she committed to the craft professionally at age 10 when she began taking on paid acting gigs throughout her native city of Los Angeles. Since then, she has acted in many productions, from theatre, film and voice-over projects. She is well-known across the U.S. for her work in critically-acclaimed gospel plays such as A Passion for Justice, When Divas Were Divas, and has shared the stage with many distinguished actors, including Robin Givens and Tony Grant. In films, she has acted alongside well-respected character actors including Gabriel Casseus and Jazmin Lewis. Oya’s voice is also widely-recognized as the feisty Manhattan-born character Shaniqua Stevens in the Alien Monster Bowling League (AMBL) game, designed for the Wii console.
Her latest role in the hit feature The Therapist as the fiery Xenia has received national praise. The film was one of the highlights of the 2012 San Diego Black Film Festival and resulted in the launch of a popular web series of the same name, which is currently filming its second season.
